SKYLU
Skylu is a south-london vocalist and songwriter, her debut release is out tomorrow - Friday 29th April - with the final single of the ep ‘RISE’. Her 2022 debut has received lots of support from BBC Introducing and she’s celebrating the release Thursday 5th May at Doña in Stoke Newington, a red and pink den of dreams and feminine power and expression.
About the final track of the EP - Shot Caller - she said: “I wrote this about a friend who disappeared one day without a trace and who I think of often and miss very much.”
2022 is a space for Skylu to experiment with her solo scrapbook, writing and playing with old friends and new and loving the spirit of creating, playing and celebrating music, community & rising up.
Inspired by the raw and soulful Nina, Etta, Joni and Amy, and contemporary voices of Cleo Sol, Lianne La Havas and Imogen Heap, you can hear the heart in Skylu’s vocal. She’s been finding solace in storytelling, humming melodies and scrawling lyrics since she was little. Find her immersed in her dreamworld, catching voice recordings on train platforms and collaborating with improvisation, striking lyrics and textured soundscapes. The songs in the RISE ep were created collaboratively with producer Lyonheart in Brighton.
